Guess this means we'll have to get that Ultimate Marvel reading order a bit more up to snuff! At this point I wonder if it would be easiest to just take it all down, re-do it, and re-upload it. It probably wouldn't take that long; the heavy lifting is already done.
How are we going to do character tags for those books, by the way?

I guess you should just tag them with Spiderman (Ultimate), X-Men (Ultimate) etc; that way people reading through the main ones wont be stuck with Ultimate titles by accident.
As far as the reading order goes I think it'll be best to do it as we go as it's mostly all okay. There are always going to be a few issues because of the Team-up stuff that is non-canonical and then all the issues with Fantastic Four. That way we can do it by popular preference of everyone reading along.

I just looked at that section and yikes, there's a LOT to be done. Those early Ultimate FF trades really need to be moved to publication time too.

Yeah it's messy but I guess it's something that can put on the back burner for now, worry about getting some blogs written, especially seeing as the whole order thing is down to opinions more than anything with certain characters like Hulk having origins that seem a bit convoluted in that universe.

I think the order of the Ultimate universe is pretty straightforward, actually. That's the benefit of it only ever having three or four ongoing series at a time. Other than Ultimate Iron Man, it's really just publication order. I've never understood why it would be anything different. There was never much exploration of the universe's origins until the aptly named Ultimate Origins, which should definitely be read at publication time.

I don't know, I had it originally by publication order then did a LOT of tweaking as I read through. I wish I could remember the specific tweaks and why, but there were a fair amount, I thought. In any case, I was planning on taking it down and re-uploading like we did with the main marvel list.

Later on it'll be easier by pub date but the beginning is far too messy to do my pub date. All the titles keep referencing things that happen in different trades, found myself struggling to follow Ult Spiderman because I didn't have the Team-Up book.

Exactly my point. Off the top of my head, the proper beginning sequence would be something like Ultimate Spider-Man Vol. 1, Ultimate X-Men Vol. 1, then Ultimate Team-Up Vol. 1. That's the order they were published in, and the order you should read them in. It's easy to forget that Team-Up only started like two or three months after Ultimate Spider-Man did.

The thing that throws it all off the most I find is that Iron Man is set at least 10 years prior to that, and I'm pretty sure they don't say "10 years later" so when Tony Stark reappears he has gone through some major ageing seemingly overnight.

yeah, Iron Man def has to be first. I didn't have a problem with reading FF earlier. I know it's technically a continuity gaf that they're mentioned as having been around some time, but I always took it as an in character misconception that they were though of as older, if that makes any sense.

As in blame it on the art not the writing? :P

You can read UFF first or without reading anything else with little confusion (at first), but that's just because it's an accessible book, not because it really fits there. But Ultimate Spider-Man Vol. 12 takes places directly after UFF Vol. 2, and makes a big deal of the Fantastic Four being brand-new superheroes. You lose that context, as well as the sense that Spider-Man is the central and most important character of the Ultimate Universe, if you read UFF so early.

ah, yeah. I guess I was placing it according to early mentions of them being established (and older.) But apparently that's a mistake?

Anyway, I think I'm gonna put the reviews on a monday-friday schedule and see if I can keep up with that. It might start as three a week (Mon-Wed-Fri) but we'll see.
