Ok, here it goes. I have been with the TRO for a while now and have tried and tried to get a firm start on accomplishing the big task of reading all (or most) of the books listed in the DC list. Along the way, I complained about the lack of DC Chronicles and Archives, and even was tempted with the availability of trades from my childhood playground of Marvel. I am determined to read the list that is so beautifully laid out in front of me, and I want to create a group of people who want to do the same. 

 

I'm going to start at the very beginning, tomorrow, with Tor Volume 1 and start from there. If you want to join and post updates on your journey, I think that would be great. I'd love to hear your comments as you go along. As I read more trades, I will post any thoughts I might have about what I am reading. Keep in mind, that while I have a broad understanding of most characters in the DCU, most of what I am reading will be brand new. Nevertheless, having read some Tor and Jonah Hex trades, I kinda know what to expect at first, but I am itching to get to the good stuff, a la the big three.

Sounds great, David! I'll definitely be looking forward to hearing about your progress through the list, and your thoughts on the DCU as time goes on. I'll certainly chime in from time to time, even if I probably won't be able to keep pace with you! I'm sure others will be excited to hear another perspective on many of these books as well.

awesome! I think you guys know that this has been a long term goal of mine as well (kind of why the site exists!) so I'm really happy to be sharing it.

 

I've read Tor Vol. 1 through the last Sandman Mystery Theatre book that I reviewed, then a huge gap with a bunch of random stuff that I've read, all the way to Crisis on Infinite Earths, where I've read from there until about 1994 and the intro trades for Kyle Rayner Green Lantern.

 

That's the point I got to before I decided to go back and start from the VERY beginning.

 

I'm excited to hear your thoughts on the first few books and then will hopefully be ready to jump in and work through the golden age :D

I'm reading both DC and Marvel lists.

 

But not exactly in order or in their entirety.

 

As for DC – I decided to skip Tor v.1-3 and instead just read Tor: A Prehistoric Odyssey, as it's considered by many to be the best of the bunch, and kind of a reboot anyway.

 

I followed that up with Viking Glory: The Viking Prince, which I liked even better.

 

Before I move on to the next trade (Showcase Presents: Jonah Hex) I have decided to read a bunch of issues of Arak Son of Thunder which would chronologically fit in between.

 

I have to say that I am simultaneously reading the post COIE DCU as well (since history changed and all that) for that I skipped ahead in the list and I read: Crisis on Infinite Earths followed by the first 3 post Crisis Green Lantern trades.

 

I decided also that rather than read decades of pre-Crisis superhero books (and spend my entire lifetime hunting them down and reading them) I would do an overview of the Trinity. To that end I read the early Archives/Chronicles books, Superman from the 30s to the 70s, Superman from the 30s to the 80s, Batman from the 30s to the 80s, and all the individual Superman/Batman in the (Decade) books.

 

ALL OF WHICH IS TO SAY – I'm kind of with you guys… just not exactly.
