True That!
So…looking at the Swamp Thing Reading Order…I know what the list says, but where do YOU recommend starting if I was just going to pickup one to test the waters? Roots, Saga Book 1, Dark Genesis? What's up with no collection of Saga starting from issue 1?

I'd start from the Alan Moore run unless you're a big bronze age fan. Pick up the first Saga book if you like hardcover, or the equivalent softcover.

I quite enjoyed the Dark Genesis stories so I would say start there to get an idea of the character before diving into Alan Moore's run.

Did she get bored with both runs?
I'm a fan of all ages. I just got 4 Preacher trades with my copy of Superman Chronicles vol 1 in the mail today…equal oportunity reader :-)
So I'll just be on the lookout for either.

The main thing I liked about the Dark Genesis trade was that it contained the origin of the The Swamp Thing (the house of secrets issue), which is pretty much non-canon but it was nice to see where it all began.
If you started with Moore's run you wouldn't be missing any information though as he pretty much reboots it for you.

No, she's been reading the alan moore stuff. Not obsessively like we do, but she says she likes it. And since she started reading, she's painted about 4 swamp things, so I'm guessing it had some impact.

Wow! That must be super-cool for you to have Swamp Thing art around the house :-)
I know Moore does a reboot, but I'm actually interested in the original origin story as you described as well Simon.
Thanks for all the info guys!

then dig into it. I think it's some of Len Wein's best work of the era, and Bernie Wrightson's art is beautiful.

Nice to hear they're really giving this story such attention. I received my Vol 1 last week and was absolutely amazed at how gorgeous it is. Beautifully bound and the large wonderfully color pages had me drooling when first thumbing through it.

I haven't gotten any absolutes myself, I'm kind of excited to know that there is something out there I'm saving for later to collect, haha.
