Hey guys, can you do me a favor?
Go to some main marvel and dc reading order pages and count how long they take to load (fully load, browser done loading). Do it for a few and come here and list the results?
The site is running very slow since the 3.1 update and I'd like to get an average load time and see if there' s a big difference between the marvel and dc categories.

A second at the most to load books of the lists, and maybe 3 seconds to load each page of the list.
That goes for both DC and Marvel; I haven't tried the quicklists as I want to get back on with my work, but I reckon that might be the slowest section of the site due to high volume of links.

the quicklists actually load really quick since they're cached (hence, quick lists) so they database doesn't actually have to do any work to export the links. It's just a static html file that gets updated every couple days or when I force a refresh.
3 seconds, really? That's pretty good, actually! I'm seeing 5-10 seconds for the viewing order lists.
I'm not particularly concerned about the individual book or blog post pages, it seems to be the main pages that are the worst.

What speed net do you have as I have a 50MB/s wired connection here so to be fair those times are slow for me, but well within acceptable limits.

I've got a cable connection, though sometimes it's kind of crappy. My concern was mostly with the server response time though, which wouldn't depend on the user's connection speed.

I'm getting a consistent 2 seconds on DC and 5 seconds on Marvel. I promise, though I'm a DC fanboy, I'm not adjusting the results

that sounds more like I thought it would be.. I guess it's because the marvel database is roughly twice the size of the dc one. there's got to be a way to speed it up, though!

I'm worried people will give up :-/
note that the current reading order pages only show 50 books where they used to show 100! And it used to be quicker showing 100 than it is with 50 now!
I'll keep working on it tomorrow.

So maybe you'll take tomorrow off then?

I'm waiting on word back from a few people I've asked to help, forum posts, etc. I have a feeling it's something to do with a plugin incompatibility, in which case I might need to wait until that's updated :-/

I've always wondered how the guy who recorded the line "Congratulations! You've won!" audio clip feels whenever he gets unexpectedly bombarded by a pop-up that uses his own voice.

god it's the worst. Sometimes I'll be browsing cbdb and open like 20 tabs of various issues and get hit with it 10 times overlapped.

This is why I love the ability to be able to mute the volume coming from different applications on Linux.
Meaning I can watch a video or listen to music while browsing the web with Linux without all those stupid emotion adverts going "woohoo!!! waaayhaaay!!!"

Ok guys, the front page is now independently cached, so it should load SUPER quick.
Can you let me know if it's working well for you, both logged in and logged out (the caching works differently depending on if you are logged in – obviously it serves you unique content for collection management, etc.)

Things seem pretty stable again so I've brought the books per page back up to 100. That should make browsing a little more enjoyable!
When a page is cached it should load in a couple seconds. (pages cache if you are logged out, to prevent the server from actually having to generate each one. Some pages always cache, like the home page and dc and marvel quick lists, so those should always be fast.) If you are logged in, it should load in under 5 seconds, though some bigger lists might take longer.
Please let me know how the loading times are now for you guys and if there are any particular pages the site is really hanging up on.

All seems to be running smoothly with the exception of the image uploader as Chris already pointed out is becoming a chore.

good to hear. When pages are not cached it apparently can take up to 13 seconds to generate a list (which is VERY slow) so I'm still looking into some solutions.
And apparently the simple press guys are looking into the image problem. There's not much I can do on my end, unfortunately :(
