haha, sorry TheEnd, that's probably me. I realized a couple years ago that it was the only way i'd actually win anything. Since then I've kept to bidding ONLY in the last ten seconds, cutting it as close as possible.

I had to get cutthroat, because my local comic shop sucks. Might as well be non-existent. Only full priced copies of the most recent hardcovers and a ton of adults only stuff, which I'm not interested in buying. So yeah.

Yeah, it's ok. I'll probably get into Ebay later to pick up some trades to fill in the huge holes in my collection, but for now I'll stick to sales.

It sucks about your shop. Mine's great. They've got a really friendly staff, and all the comics, trades and figures you could think of. Plus, as I mentioned, they have sales often. A few years back, I managed to pick a few great quality COIE issues; that year they also had a coverless Amazing Spider-Man #8, which another person purchased. My favorite part of the shop though, has got to be the wall of important single issues from many Marvel, DC and independent series.

Yeah, my store back in western massachusetts was like that. Huge used section, always introducing me to new stuff, weekly sales and events, and a great community including some cool local creators. It was a really tough change after the move and I didn't buy comics at all for a couple years.

I visit back up north again, and picked up a couple trades of Books of Magic for about 5 bucks each at that store… then had to go online to get the rest of them when I got home, and it's been ebay ever since,

Man, that seems terrible to have moved away from a great place like that. I live just outside New York, so there's an abundance of great shops. The one I frequent seems to get me the best deals and is also the closest. It's no Midtown Comics, which I'm not sure if you're familiar with but its a big store just off of Times Square in NYC, but it's certainly a fantastic place to shop and look for bargains.

haha at the time I was just happy to get away from home.

I used to grab trades from Strand, actually. Picked up Crossing Midnight there for 3 bucks a book.

I really should get a new one too. I have a pile of trades and hardcovers in my closet right now because I don't have shelf space, and all of my regular books and novels are stacked two deep on their shelves, haha.

I'm actually subscribed via RSS to "Bookshelf" on craigslist. It was that bad how much I needed a new one. This one is ok – wish it was black to match my other three DCU shelves, but it's not a big deal.

Anyone else love Omnibus'?

Right now, I have four of them (Captain America Omnibus, Death of Captain America Omnibus, Amazing Spider-Man Omnibus, and Astonishing X-Men Omnibus).

I consider the one that got away the New X-Men Omnibus. I could have had it at the time for $49.99 and now that it's out of print, you see it on ebay and Amazon Marketplace for $200. :(

Some I feel are just too big for my tiny boy hands. The Howard The Duck one feels bigger than my head.

I've always wanted to pick up some Omnibi, if that's the plural, but I haven't seen them cheap anywhere. Eventually, I'll break down and buy one, I guess.

Amazon is your best bet, they usually have them in the 40-70 dollar range, which is cheaper than anywhere else.

I've managed to find some good deals with ebay, like for everything else, but it's hit or miss. Patience and perseverance is a key factor. Find a price you like and stick to it, be willing to lose a couple times if it's over your range.

You can find a lot of the Omnibus editions still in print for half-price on dcbservice.com. I just found this out pretty recently, and I'll be ordering my Omnibuses from them in the future whenever possible.

Right now I have 12 Omnibus collections. I try to only buy them for older material these days, as I've come to like the gigantic format a bit less. Like Ian mentioned, the books can be too big for their own good sometimes. But in the case of the older stuff, it's the only way to get letters pages and other cool features. It's also cheaper than buying the same material in Masterwork form (plus you still get all the Masterwork introductions).

Hey, some of them have letter pages? That's really cool. I wish that it was more common for that stuff to be collected. I really enjoy the fan context.

Just picked up Astonishing X-Men Vol. 1-4 for 16.50 including shipping. Pretty happy with that – I'll read anything by Joss Whedon and I've kind of been missing the X-Men.

Nice, damn good stuff there. I take it you've read New X-Men?

Also, all those Sandman Mystery Theatre books I won? Never got any of them, or anything else I won from the guy (the first Gotham Central HC, Batman: Gothic, a Punisher hardcover, some other stuff I can't remember). Guy must have been a scammer…I had to open a case. Reminds me again why I quit bothering with ebay in the first place.

It hasn't been that long though – totally possible it's still on its way. Have you seen any other feedback on him? Sometimes they do take forever.

I got my SMT books! heh.

I haven't read new x-men yet – I've had a saved search for it for some time. Should I read it first? I really want to.

ack, nevermind – they said they flooded and the books were damaged. I kind of think they might not have wanted to sell them for that cheap. Oh well.

Oh no, all of the other feedback the guy has gotten (starting with the day AFTER I won that auction…) says that people never got their stuff, and that he stopped responding to their messages. He hasn't responded to mine either. Really frustrating.

I think you'll get more out of Astonishing X-Men if you read New X-Men first. Whedon was really just continuing Morrison's story with Astonishing, although I guess it wouldn't hurt to read Astonishing first if you already have it.
