Hello all,
I have recently, and by that I mean in the last 3 months, just gotten into the X-Men. Great stuff, and I cannot believe I took so long to dive in.
I started with House of M, moved on to Decimation, and last week completed Messiah Complex. At the moment, I am working through the first 3 volumes of the X-Force trades. I read the first one Sunday, and I hope to read the second and third this week.
Anyway, I'm just posting here because I always end up having all kinds of questions about the X-Men, and I never know where to turn. Is anyone here an X-Men fan? The owner of the shop I go to for my comics is a huge fan, so on Wednesday's I do get to chat with him for a few. But I'm stuck otherwise. Won't you help me? :) haha.

I am a pretty big x-men fan and would love to chat with you! I got into it watching the 90s cartoon and have been hooked ever since. My dream would to someday have every x-men book, but that is a long long LONG way from happening. I have actually done what it sounds like you were doing. I have from about house of M up to Second coming of the main events mostly and the two lead books. Then I have major stuff from the past.
How have you liked your experience so far. I have found it is a lot more fun if you have the background knowledge because there are so many characters and references to comics from 20 years ago that I have found that just picking up can be a little frustrating. I would love to hear your thoughts!

Hi Eric, I know what you mean about it being a tad frustrating just jumping in. But I had to start somewhere manageable. And for me, that was House Of M. Which I thought was fantastic. I subscribe to Marvel Digital Unlimited, so I was able to get all the issues that way. And the cover to House of M #2 is burned in my mind. It has Wolverine on the front looking up at all the new mutants. And you can just tell something is wrong by looking at his face. :) I loved it.
My first question might involve a spoiler. So perhaps we should ask Ian/Marc to label this thread as such? I don't know what the policy here is with regards to spoilers, and I personally don't like to read them. So try to avoid them if you can.
So when I started Messiah Complex, after Decimation (I skipped Endangered Species), all of a sudden Charles Xavier is walking around like Locke in Lost. What happened to the wheel chair? If you know what I should read to find out, that would be best. Otherwise, if you could just explain it a bit.
Thanks! I have more questions too, but I'll start here. I have to get back to work too. :)

One thing we can do is hide the spoilers, which I just learned to do. just use the face with the blinders on.
Also if you get a chance I would read endangered species. Its essentially a beast piece but I really liked that. It made me like the character a lot more.
So Xavier walking and being crippled again happens all the time. This time around, I think the explanation is as a result of House of M, he looses his powers but gets his legs back. This might be more flushed out in Deadly Genesis which I liked and was a pretty good read, but I haven't read it in a while so I am not 100% sure if it is explained there. Essentially House of M is a good jumping on point and it rest a bunch and explained weird changes. I mean reality was warped, who wouldn't have expected all this.
If you want to explore x-men outside of wikipedia I highly suggest Uncanny X-Men Net I like this site a lot. Not to discourage you to asking questions or talking with me about it.

hey Eric, if you're talking about getting every x-men trade, 800 or so is very doable! Less than a lot of hobbies, possibly less than some people spend on a lavish vacation. Not that I'm sure every X-Men related story would be worth it ;)

HAHA, true true. Some may not be worth it at all, and sadly I have some of those. I would love to have every issues in some form (comic or trade) but some are so bad. I still have plenty of time I know. Does anyone have a worst x-men time/arc.story that comes to mind?

I doubt I've read the worst. For Marvel, I try to stay within my budget, so I only bought stuff I was pretty sure I would enjoy. I remember reading a lot of crap in floppies as a kid, but I totally loved it then just because it was comics. You know.
