So the big news today is that DC is releasing a bunch of previously uncollected or unpublished material under a DC Comics Presents line and Vertigo Resurrected.

The DC stuff is interesting, including some Young Justice issues that I didn’t think would see collection much and Jack Cross 1-4, a bit of a Warren Ellis thriller.

Here’s the full list, from the DCU blog (more info there, including description of these contents and pictures):

DC COMICS PRESENTS: BRIGHTEST DAY #1
Tales from HAWKMAN #27, 34 and 36, SOLO #8, DCU HOLIDAY ‘09 and STRANGE ADVENTURES #205.

DC COMICS PRESENTS: ETHAN VAN SCIVER #1
Collecting BATMAN AND CATWOMAN: TRAIL OF THE GUN #1 and 2

DC COMICS PRESENTS: SUPERMAN #1
Collecting SUPERMAN #179-185 and SUPERMAN: MAN OF STEEL #121

DC COMICS PRESENTS: JACK CROSS #1
Features JACK CROSS #1-4

DC COMICS PRESENTS: BATMAN #1
Collecting BATMAN #582-585

DC COMICS PRESENTS: YOUNG JUSTICE #1
Collecting the JLA: WORLD WITHOUT GROWN-UPS 2-issue miniseries

DC COMICS PRESENTS: GREEN LANTERN #1
Collecting GREEN LANTERN #137-140

And from the Vertigo Blog:

So why not dig through the archives and bring some of them back? Welcome to VERTIGO RESURRECTED – a series of one-shots and specials geared to do just that–embrace history and stories that connect with the present day activities of our favorite protagonists, antagonists and creators.

“Shoot,” Warren Ellis’s much-talked about, but never published, HELLBLAZER story involving schoolyard killings leads this mega-sized VERTIGO RESURRECTION special.

Also included are rarely seen tales exploring the disturbing depths of horror, war, romance and science fiction by Brian Azzarello, Grant Morrison, Garth Ennis and artists Jim Lee, Phil Jimenez, Bernie Wrightson, and others. Cover by Tim Bradstreet.

VERTIGO RESURRECTED #1 On Sale October 20 / 96 pages / $7.99

Warren Ellis (who is represented well in both areas!) posted a little commentary over at his blog that you might be interested in.

A commenter wonders if we’ll ever get to see that Swamp Thing meets Jesus arc. I’m still crossing my fingers that we’ll get to see ANY Swamp Thing collected past where the last softcovers went.

Anyway, about these collections in specific – it’s good stuff! I think it’s a great idea to do a DC Presents line.

However, I think these are floppy collections, right? They’re not squarebound like prestige format releases? I’m honestly not sure, but I know FC means full color. I’m guessing because of the price point, the issue style numbers, and how they were solicited here.

Damn shame, because I don’t buy anything that isn’t at least a prestige – and I hope that Jack Cross being collected in that format, for example, wouldn’t keep it from being collected in a nice little squarebound format.

I might be totally wrong though. I kind of hope I am, because I’d love for there to be a little 7.99 introductory graphic novel line.

What do you guys think of this news? I’m linking this one to a forum thread. :)

As of this update, the following books have been placed on the RRO:

Lucifer: The Devil In The Gateway

Lucifer: Children and Monsters

Lucifer: A Dalliance With The Damned

Lucifer: Nirvana

Lucifer: The Divine Comedy

Lucifer: Inferno

Lucifer: Mansions of the Silence

Lucifer: Exodus

Lucifer: The Wolf Beneath the Tree

Lucifer: Crux

Lucifer: Morningstar

Lucifer: Evensong

Lucifer is one of my absolute favorite comics. It’s basically a sequel to Sandman, both with some reoccurring characters and in general theme and feel. I’m sure a lot of people would say it’s not quite as good, but honestly I’ve read and reread Lucifer many more times than Sandman.

Really fun book. If you haven’t read it yet, I highly recommend picking it up. You can often find a complete set of the trades on ebay for very reasonable amounts.

Here’s an update with a much requested feature! Well, actually it’s an update made up of a bunch of smaller features and changes, all combined to make one captain planet of an update.

This update allows you to share your collection with other site users! Remember, all you have to do is log in and click on the + buttons next to each book to add books to your collection. I’m trying to make it as quick and easy as possible. If you don’t like waiting for the page to reload, you can even hit the plus button to open in a new tab!

I’m working on getting it to function using AJAX so it doesn’t have to reload the whole page before saving your book addition.

Lets go down the list of features added in this new update.

1. Each user now has a profile page!

The direct url for this page is http://www.tradereadingorder.com/profile/username/ – your username is whatever you use to log in with!

2. The profile page displays:

Your Avatar, your full name (whatever you choose to put here, I don’t require this to be a real name), your display name in parentheses, your website link and your email link.

Your Bio – this is whatever you put in on your profile page.

Your Recent Blog Posts and Reviews (if you’ve submitted any through the backend or are a regular author here.)

Your Recent Comments (on any blog posts)

and finally, YOUR COLLECTION.

3. Forum Profile Links, Comment Links, and Author Names now link to profile page

All the user links on the page should now link to this profile page, instead of seperate forum profiles and site profiles. This means that you also just edit your profile through the wordpress backend instead of the separate forum form. You can now upload an avatar directly on this page! I apologize if you previously uploaded an avatar, you’ll have to do it again or use your Gravatar.

On the upside of losing the old ones, you can now upload a bigger avatar.

4. Avatars Now Display In Comments and on Sidebar!

Avatars now display in the comments and on the sidebar after you’ve logged in. I’ll be tweaking the layout of this stuff more soon, as it’s kind of awkward right now, but there they are! Again, you can upload an avatar directly on your profile page. Play around with it and let me know if something seems broken!

That’s it for now! Once I figure out how, I’ll be adding Recent Forum Posts to profile pages. And of course the wishlist, if we ever get that working.

Let’s share our collections guys! Here are some examples to start you out:

You can see my profile and collection here and you can check out Beth’s little profile where she’s listing the books she’s read so far.

I’ve updated the forum to the latest version and managed to get the inline login form working. That should make things a lot quicker and easier for forum posting.

It was something I desperately wanted, because I often post on my lunch break at work and I have to log in and out on a regular basis.

I bet some of you just have the site remember you and never even noticed it, but this will be a major timesaver for me, haha.

In the past it totally broke the layout when I tried to get it working, now it seems that it still messes up the background image for some reason, but everything else seems stable. That’s acceptable at this time.
