Alex J. sent me the following email:

Dear Ian,

I’m very impressed by your site, but I have a couple of questions: first of all, why do you only have the first couple of “Chronicles” TPB on your list? Where, for example, are Superman Chronicles 3-8? Secondly, what made you put Madame Xanadu so early on the list?

Thank you in advance,

Alex

Figured it might be useful to answer this publicly (with his permission, of course). Here’s my response.

Hey Alex!

Thanks for the email! Let’s see if I can help answer.

For the chronicles books, it’s pretty simple – I haven’t entered 3-8 into the database yet. Each book is its own database item, so even if I have an idea of where they are in the list (the chronicles ones you mention are all around that pre-war period) I have to enter them for them to show up.

The books that will be entered there are the chronicles ones (superman and batman, sandman mystery theatre, and a couple others like Greatest 50s Stories Ever Told and Greatest Golden Age Stories Ever Told).

Madam Xanadu is so early because it can be read at any time and it takes place very early in the DCU – I place that first book where it is because it ends with an event that takes place in 1940. I think it’s the most fun to read it near the golden age comics it references.

Once the chronological list is working (which will be after I’ve added covers and other information to every dcu title) you will be able to see it placed by when it actually was released instead of when I think it should be read.

That help ya?

Very best,
Ian

As always, any letter to the editor is very very much appreciated!

I get a lot of requests for additions to specific lists (which I take seriously!), but questions about how things work are just dandy too!

I won’t post anything from you without your consent.

Due to popular demand, I decided to take some time and create an Event/Series page for Superman: New Krypton.

I’m not sure what other books might include any crossover with this event, but so far I’ve got the main New Krypton books, Supergirl, Codname Patriot, Nightwing and Flamebird, and Mon-El.

This is one I haven’t had any time to read myself, yet, so I’m creating this mostly on blurbs and forum research. So if you’ve got any advice, I could use it more than usual!

Some of these books are not even placed in the main DCU reading order yet, and many of them aren’t out yet, but I’ve added them to the New Krypton page and tweaked their order at least for that purpose. Once they’re in the main DCU reading order they’ll have a bit different setting in the backend, but you shouldn’t notice any difference on this page.

Back in the day, I used to talk on the internet a lot. Then I had a life, then I had college, then I moved in with my gal, then I got steady work.

So when it comes to forums, over the past few years I’ve been a huge lurker, at most. But that could only last so long.

Now that I’ve got a lot of specific questions, since I’m working on so many things, I need to be able to bounce ideas off people.

So I’ve been posting on a few forums. I’ve got update threads for this website at ComicBookResources and the DC Comics boards.

I’ve also joined a buffy board that’s helped me with my Buffyverse order and now I’ve just signed up for Comicvine.

My account name for these boards is Sending Signal – I probably should have made them all TPBReadingOrder or something, like my twitter, but honestly I wanted to keep it personal and laid back – they’re so I can talk about comics, enjoy myself, and gather information, not promote this site.

I think this site will be succesful on its own, simply because I’m trying to put the best content possible out there. I want this site to serve its purpose, and so far it seems to be working well.

Anyway, if you’re on those forums, feel free to say hi to me. I’m totally new at comicvine and I’m a little overwhelmed by it, honestly, but I’m figuring it out and so far the interface is fun. I like that I level up by fixing my profile and I like that I can sync the TPB Reading Order twitter update feed to my account. Add me on there if you use it!

No new books actually up online tonight, because I’m working on getting things organized in my offline database first. Once I’ve got a pretty good order worked out I’ll move it all online and start filling out info. In fact, I’ve got a lot of restructuring going on that will make it easier for me to sketch things out offline.

Non-book updates – fixed a problem with the feed that should make sending updates to twitter actually work now.

Also, some minor php tweaks (took out a million blank lines that might have been messing up the feed.)
