That took a little bit, but I’ve finished adding DC books to my collection! Including Vertigo and Unplaced Books, I’ve got 1252 DC books on my shelves! What about you?

I’m psyched about this – I’ve been estimating the number for years, since I was too lazy to make a separate excel file for just owned (vs owned and looking for all in one file).. let alone count by hand.

Going through, I made a couple corrections:

Elseworlds: Superman: Speeding Bullets (Title was mispelled.)

DC Animated: Teen Titans Go! Vol. 4: Ready for Action! (Digest) (Accidentally placed very far from where it should have been.)

The Little Endless Storybook (Deleted two redundant entries – must have been a database upload error.)

Now that there are a ton of books on my collection listing, I’m able to see how it preforms with loading a huge list.

It’s not too fast, but not deadly slow either. Once in a while it can’t load the whole thing, so it messes up and the formatting collapses. Refreshing solves the problem.

Overall, I’m pretty happy with it! It’s cool to see the whole thing alphabetically too, I’ve never seen my collection listed in that way!

So I’ve been going through and adding all the DCU books I’ve got to My Collection. I wanna see how it works with a really big collection, for one thing, for another, it would be cool to know exactly how many books I have! Once I’m done, I’ll probably want to fix up a way that we can all share our collections with each other.. you know, just so I can show off ;)

I’ve noticed a few mis-placements:

The Adam Strange Archives Vol. 2 (This was placed about 100 books too early somehow, probably a typo. It’s been fixed!)

DC Animated: Batman: Mask Of The Phantasm Movie Adaptation (This was placed by exact date, when it should have been placed with the rest of the DC animated books in the first animated interlude – it’s possible the placing policy will change for these titles in the future, but for now I’m leaving them all in a little clump around certain key releases or periods)

And a few minor tweaks (mostly noticed by Alex):

Tales Of The Batman: Tim Sale (listed as “Time Sale” for some reason. I know, I know.)

Green Arrow Vol. 3: Archer’s Quest (Though originally released as Vol. 4, this one actually collects stuff that came before what was originally released as Vol. 3. It’s been corrected on the DC website, so we’re updating the title of this listing, but honestly I don’t know if the actual trade was re-released with the right number on it. Can anyone verify?)

Power Girl (Updated included contents)

I’m on page 14/33 of the Recommended Reading Order right now, so I’ll probably notice more as I go through. Stay tuned!

You can now have a choice of how to sort your collection on the My Collection Page.

Let me know if it seems like it’s loading really slowly or not working on your browser!

Chronological Sorting is coming soon, but will have to wait until the end-date field is completed for most of the books in the database. Right now it just wouldn’t work!

I haven’t gotten to public implementation of the alphabetical listing/sorting toggle yet, but I did do a bunch of little updates that should make adding books to My Collection easier.

1. Non-Logged In users will now see a slightly faded version of the Add To Collection icon in place of the normal one. It doubles as a link to take you to the login page. I also added title text to the conditional links to make everything a bit more user friendly.

2. The icon now shows in the header of individual book posts and next to the add to collection link under the book cover image (if there).

3. Fixed the spacing a bit on the single book headers – the cover, text, and add to collection icon should look a little less crowded.

4. Made the review link conditional – if there is no review in the database, the blank link will not show. I tried to do the same for the amazon and cbdb link, but the php call for the title of the entry keeps it from working. That’s ok though, they’ll all have amazon and cbdb links long before they all have reviews.

5. Made “You Must Be Logged In To Manage Your Collection.” on the My Collection page bigger and conditional.

6. Added a note about possible uses to the collection page.

7. Put all the collection feature info into an expanding div – it takes up a bunch of room at the top of your collection page, and you probably want to get the the list asap, when you’re visiting it.

As has been requested, I’ve moved the Search to the top right of the page. I also added a login reminder that should only be visible to users who are not logged in.

Finally, I added the “Comics” list to the filtering on the sidebar, so you can now create filtered lists that pull from ALL comics, not just the subcategories. If you’ve only been using the search and haven’t tried the filtering yet, I HIGHLY recommend it. It will list a bunch of books at once, instead of bringing you to the individual page, etc. It takes some getting used to, but play around with it and you can get really cool results by searching for included issue names and so on.

These little updates should come in handy for working on your collections! :D

Edit: Also just fixed a weird bug where the forum content was showing underneath the title header. Very strange! Added in a float tag for it and it seemed to fix the problem. A lot has changed in the last couple days, so let me know if you see anything else that’s wonky!
