note to self, the hardcover might be the wrong book here. Marc?

There’s no hardcover version of “The Life and Death of Captain Marvel.” There was only a trade, released in 2002. It collects the same contents as the trades “The Life of Captain Marvel” and “The Death of Captain Marvel,” except all in one book.

“Death” was recently re-issued as a Marvel Premiere Classic.

So the death one is the OGN in hardcover form? Do you know what accounts for the page difference?

(I’ve got the softcover, by the way, I noticed this while adding it to my collection! :D)

Well, the original Death of Captain Marvel OGN was 64 pages. That was Marvel’s first OGN, done in the early 1980s.

The first time it was collected, it was along with the contents of “The Life of Captain Marvel” in the first printing of “Life and Death of Captain Marvel” (which first came out in 1994, not 2002 as I previously said).

“Death” never got a collection totally of its own between its release and 2010, when it got the MPC treatment. The MPC is longer than 64 pages because it also includes an issue of Captain Marvel’s ongoing series and two issues of Marvel Spotlight.

Does this answer your question? And which softcover is it that you own?

ah, so they MPC is totally different than the two books we’ve got in the database already?

I own the softcover life and death that has the contents of this book entry. Haven’t gotten around to reading it yet :(

So I should make a new entry for the MPC, right?

Marc replied on February 23rd, 2011 at 2:29 am:

The MPC is already has an entry: http://www.tradereadingorder.com/marvel/captain-marvel-the-death-of-captain-marvel/

So you don’t need to make a new one. However, you do need to delete the Hardcover link for this entry, since this book does not have an HC version. That link is currently going to the MPC of “Death of Captain Marvel.”

ah, righto. I see it now. Not sure how I missed that. It should be all better now. Thanks Marc!

except I think I should move the MPC a bit to put it next to these. Then we should be set.
