Up Down

Just a quick note – I took Outsiders: The Road To Hell off of the New Krypton List and added Superman and the Legion of Superheroes.

As DC Comics Message Board user Supermanbeyond told me:

> In any case, thanks for the advice – do you think the

> it.

It introduces the Legion of Superheroes of the current continuity, who play a huge role in Last Stand of New Krypton. It also brings the whole xenophobia theme.

> interaction, or just not that important?

None. Maybe there were plans, but they were canceled.

I heard about those plans being canceled elsewhere too, actually.

In any case, those have been switched in/out. The Superman and The Legion Of Superheroes trade has also been moved in the reading order, to right around Countdown to Final Crisis Volume 4 on Page 35.

Edit: Also added JLA Vol. 18: Crisis Of Conscience to the Identity Crisis reading order.

Looking at the Event reading orders, thought I’d throw out a suggestion (as if you didn’t have enough on your plate…ha!) but I notice that you’ve got 2 of the 3 major recent DC events listed…so how about a Batman R.I.P./Batman Reborn list to round it out? There’s already a dozen or more books out that would go on such a list, with a lot more on their way…

yeah, I’d like to do that. Eventually I’d like to add all the past DCU events too.

You’re right that I’ve got a lot of other stuff to work on though – I got a little too into this lex luthor placement, haha, and kind of ignored all the database additions I was going to do the past couple nights.

If you want (and it’s easy for you) you could type up a quick list of all the books you think should be tagged with Batman R.I.P and I’ll tag em and create the header. (Is that the official title for the event? if it’s even being called an event? I feel like we all knew bruce would be back (duh) but I can’t help thinking that the impact of death is lessened… ah well, such is the DCU)

I think technically they called it two separate events: Last Rites and Batman Reborn. It could go either way whether you wanted to put them as separate or together. Personally since the two run right into each other, I’d be inclined to treat is as one event, but that’s just me.

And as for throwing together a list: you know me — always happy to help. I’ll see what I can do before I head off to bed.

Yeah man, you’ve surprised me with your exuberant participation! Maybe it’s something about comics that inspires action – that right mix of “this is important” and “procrastination feels good.” haha

As for the list, I think it sounds like it should be treated as one event. We can always split it up later with a minimum amount of effort.

Yeah, well A) it’s nice to think all the time I spend reading and thinking about this stuff might help some fellow readers out in some way and B) since none of my local friends are really comic nerds it’s fun to just get on here and BS about this stuff…especially since you and I seem to keep similarly ridiculous hours. lol

And now the list. This is just a first cut, but I think its most everything that’s either out or announced. There’s several of these books that you don’t have placed yet, so I’m sure this will stay a work in progress for a while. (I have one Final Crisis and one Blackest Night book on the list because I know they tie in directly. There may be others from those events that should be included, but I’d need to do some more research to be sure.)

    Final Crisis
    Batman R.I.P.
Whatever Happened to the Caped Crusader
    Battle for the Cowl
    Battle for the Cowl Companion
    Batman and Robin: Batman Reborn
    Oracle: The Cure
    Red Robin: The Grail
    Streets of Gotham: Hush Money
    Gotham City Sirens: Union
    Batwoman: Elegy
    Batgirl: Batgirl Rising
    Robin: Search for a Hero
    Nightwing: The Great Leap
    Batman: Life After Death
    Batman: Long Shadows
Blackest Night: Black Lantern Corps Vol. 1

Sounds good! I’m going to tag these ones – do you think I should go back and tag the Morrison volumes leading up to the event as well? starting around, say, Batman and Son?

PS. That’s exactly how I feel about the site. I’ve gone through so much effort just to create a reading order for MYSELF, it feels dumb not to share it :D

And past being able to take my recommendations for what to read next, my local friends don’t really have the passion for it I do, haha

Haha, that’s the other thing…I was also spending tons of time on my own reading order spreadsheet before I found your page. So no need to reinvent the wheel anymore…

As for including other of the Morrison books, I suspect you’re right. I’m not there yet in my reading so the first cut was just the books that have been promoted as tie-ins. When I get home I’ll do a little research on the question.

I’ve been told they’re basically one big story.

Started a thread over at CBR about this which seems to be pretty helpful so far:

Alright, they’re in. Thanks for your help on this one! It was a lot easier to tag em working from a list in the backend.

Now, they won’t show in order until I finish placing the rest of the books so I gotta get on that tonight!
